Rikke Madsen made a comeback as Everton’s forward, making her boyfriend propose after her first game in more than a year.

In Saturday’s 3-0 Women’s Super League victory over Crystal Palace, the Danish international made her comeback.

For the first time since the birth of her daughter Fritsen in October, Madsen was chosen for Brian Sorensen’s matchday squad.

The 27-year-old substitute made a second-half substitution and her partner, Martin Thomsen, kneel during a ceremony where they were celebrating their victory on the field.

According to Madsen, “I’ve been anticipating this moment for a year,” Madsen told the BBC. “I’ve been aiming to get back as quickly as possible ever since becoming pregnant.

It’s wonderful to be back today because my young baby turns five months old. I didn’t anticipate that when my boyfriend asked me to marry him. That was a little twist.

Before boss Sorensen presented the pair with a bouquet, Madsen accepted and the happy couple celebrated with her team-mates.

She made her final Everton appearance on March 10, 2024, but she was unsure of her expected return date.
