Leigh Wood, who vacated his IBF world super-featherweight title on Friday, has been identified as a potential opponent by Anto Cacace.

Before defeating Josh Warrington in a non-title fight at Wembley Stadium four months ago, the 35-year-old defeated Joe Cordina to win the Saudi Arabian title in May 2024.

Cacace was scheduled to face Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez, his unrequited challenger for the IBF title in his following fight, but he will now be able to face any opponent once he’s given up his championship belt.

When questioned about possible links to a fight with Wood, Cacace responded, “It doesn’t seem like much of a secret, but there are a few names in the mix.”

I believe it’s the best choice to leave for the sake of my family’s future, my future to leave a legacy in this sport, and for my name to be remembered for big fights, so I believe it’s the right decision.

Cacace stunned the world of boxing when he defeated Cordina in the eighth round of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s first undisputed heavyweight fight in Riyadh.

The Belfast man, who was the underdog at the time, gave a brutal performance to earn the Welshman his first professional defeat.

Prior to the IBF’s decision to declare the fight a world title contest due to the Leeds fighter’s inactivity at super-featherweight, he had scheduled to face former world champion Josh Warrington.

Cacace won the game-winning 2024 game by unanimously choosing Cacace to win it without the title.
