‘A matter of time’ before Savage leaves Macclesfield

Robert Smethurst, the owner of Macclesfield FC, claims it is only a matter of time before Robbie Savage leaves to pursue a higher level of self-improvement.

The Welshman, 50, took over as Silkmen manager last summer but hasn’t stayed in touch with the organization since Smethurst’s sale in 2020 following Macclesfield Town’s liquidation.

With a 20-point advantage over Worksop Town ahead of Saturday’s visit to Bamber Bridge, the club is now on the verge of national league North promotion.

God only knows, according to Smethurst, who spoke to BBC Radio Manchester. “How long will he stay here at Macclesfield?”

“We might be able to keep him for another year.” He is already receiving more clubs in the league right now.

He will only need to demonstrate himself and declare his resignation from Macclesfield. That is something I am aware of.

In a three-year run, Macclesfield FC has won two promotions, but Marine Marine only managed one when they were defeated by them in the playoffs last year.

Smethurst acknowledged that the club’s ability to reach the English Football League would limit any upcoming promotion pushes, but that the National League’s financial constraints would make it difficult to do so in the future.

He continued, “The English Football League is probably our biggest source of funding.” We want to achieve that. That’s probably where we’ll stay for a while if we can get into the National League.
