As the second week of Cannes Film Festival kicks off, we take a look inside the iconic red carpet stars such as Jennifer Lawrence and Pedro Pascal walk down, and the less glam side of it.
The Cannes Film Festival red carpet may look like a glamour-fest, but after experiencing the bustle of the busy area, it’s not always so luxurious.
When it comes to the famous red carpet in Cannes, there are some very strict rules in place, including a ‘ no pictures ‘ policy – ruling out that perfect shot if you’re not chosen by the herd of professional photographers.
Many do get around this rule by sneakily taking a selfie, but you’ll need to be quick so the quick acting security don’t catch you.
While it does feel very chic walking up Palais De Festival’s iconic red steps, it’s unlikely you’ll find yourself posing alongside Eva Longoria or Bella Hadid, with the celebs having priority on the carpet and then taking a reserved seat near the front of the theatre inside.
The iconic red carpet is closed during the afternoon to prepare for celebs to walk down it during premiere’s, with staff often seen making sure it’s picture perfect
The red carpet is fairly chaotic behind the scenes, with plenty of queuing to be done if you’re not a celebrity

With the festival sponsored by BMW, there are plenty of the brand’s chic blacked out vehicles on standby to pick stars such as Tom Cruise up and drop them off right outside the carpet entrance. But for everyone else, it’s not such a smooth process.
Having a ticket is one thing, but finally getting on the carpet is another, with lengthy lines forming before the beginning of each premiere. If you’re hoping to attend a big premiere such as Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning or tonight’s Eddington – which features several Hollywood stars – getting a ticket is near impossible.
If you’re dedicated, refreshing the official Cannes ticketing system every 15 minutes in the 24 hour lead up to a premiere might serve you well. But if that doesn’t work, you can try your luck in the ‘ last minute line’, where spare seats are given out on a first come, first served basis.
Security have a strict ‘ no selfie ‘ policy, which you can get around if you’re speedy
And when I say first come, this often means hopeful attendees arriving to the line up to ten hours before the premiere begins.
I’d say to wear something comfortable if you’re going to be sitting all of that time, but the red carpets strict black tie dress code means you’ll need to be in your full glam for the whole wait.

Some even try their luck outside of the theatre by spending the day holding up signs requesting unneeded tickets, but I can’t say I saw a successful transaction take place on that front.
While the sea of suited photographers may not be screaming your name on the carpet, it’ll still be a fun experience either way, and one you won’t forget quickly.
Following a lot of backlash from his social media posts, Gary Lineker apologized for his actions and announced he would leave his BBC presenting position early.
Downing Street has had its say on the Gary Lineker saga after the BBC presenter announced he is leaving his role with the organisation. The former footballer, 64, issued an apology as he announced he was quitting his position following a row over a post many deemed antisemitism.
Earlier this week Lineker spoke out on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and shared a pro-Palestine video on his Instagram account. The upload featured a rat emoji from the campaign group, Palestine Lobby. Lineker swiftly deleted the post and issued an apology soon after, but was met with huge backlash online.
He has now announced he will leave the organisation at the end of this football season. Lineker was due to finishing presenting Match of the Day this season but front BBC’s World Cup coverage in 2026 – which will no longer be the case.

Downing Street also addressed his decision, stating in a statement that the former sports star had made a “significant contribution” to the BBC. However, they claimed it was crucial that the broadcaster uphold the “highest standards.”
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “Specifically in relation to the social media post by Gary Lineker, that was clearly completely unacceptable and it’s right that he’s apologised. Staffing matters are obviously one for the BBC and for the individual involved, but we’ve always said that it’s important for the BBC to uphold the highest standards as the public would expect.

Gary Lineker has obviously made a significant contribution to the BBC’s broadcasting over the past 20 years, and I believe we should have known when he first announced his departure from the organization.
Lineker claimed in a social media post on Monday that he believed that stepping aside would be the best move for everyone in light of the circumstances. He continued, “I’m forever sorry for the pain and suffering caused.”
Hello everyone, some personal news, he said. An emoji that has awful connotations appeared in a post I shared last week on Instagram. Sadly, I missed the emoji. I would never, ever share it if I had.
“I immediately deleted the post and apologized as soon as I was made aware.” I once more regret the pain and suffering that resulted, as I am aware that I should have been more careful.
I’ve always championed minorities, humanitarian issues, and antisemitism, which I detest in every way possible. There is no place for it. I believe that stepping down from BBC duties immediately and not participating in the FA Cup or World Cup of the following year is best for everyone involved.
My final performance will be this weekend’s Match of the Day. Working for the BBC for 30 years has been a pleasure and a great honor.
“The BBC and I have a long and wonderful relationship, but this is the right time to leave,” I said.
I’ll see you all on Sunday, thank you also to each of you for your unmatched love and support for so long.

By jokingly “accusing” a concertgoer of DMing her husband, Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry stunned her devoted fans. Katie, 40, halted her Nevada performance and identified a confused audience member. In front of a crowded T-Mobile Arena in Paradise Valley, the singer addressed the fan with stern language.
much to their surprise. Katie unleashed on the audience about halfway through her eleventh-hour set, which was her 84-date Lifetimes world tour.
Katy addressed the fan by leaning down on her knees. She astonishingly claimed that he had communicated with husband actor Orlando via a number of private messages.
Nevada (Reddit) fan was targeted by Katy Perry.
A video of Katy telling the fan, “I know why you’re here,” was captured by TikTok user 143katyperry. If you keep DM-ing my man, you’ve been doing it for months, right? You didn’t see me play, did you?
The Firework singer continued, “If you keep DM-ing my man, I’m going to have you removed – seriously, get your own life.” The fan quickly grew excited about the conversation.
She muttered, “don’t want you, Kyle,” as she went on. His wife is mine. I’m his, he’s mine… stay the f*** away. It soon became clear that Katy’s hit-out was scripted and fit well into one of her most recent tunes, despite the fan’s shock, which was immediately apparent. The star’s 2024 single I’m His, He’s Mine was on the acclaim of the audience, who screamed in anticipation.
Katy’s most recent travels come at a time when she was subjected to severe criticism for her recent space trip. She spent 11 minutes in orbit, using a trip owned by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who controls the Blue Origin rocket.
The musician criticized her participation, but she also claimed that it was “human piata” in spite of critics’ criticism. Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn were Jeff’s girlfriends on the adventure along with Katy.
Everyone aboard gushed that their ground-breaking project had “changed everything.” However, many people, including other A-listers, criticized the flight and the participants.

The California Girls singer has received endless memes as a result of the journey. But she refused to retaliate with a sly nod.
We’re on this beautiful and wild journey together, she wrote in the comments section of a post shared by a fan page on Instagram to thank the followers who support her. Because of our bond, I can stay true to myself, heart open, and honest.
“I love you guys, I’ve grown up with you, and I’m so excited to see you around the world this year”! She continued, “When the online world tries to make me a human Piata,” I take it with grace and show love to those who are suffering innumerable ways, and the internet is a hotbed for the unhealed and the unhinged.
What’s real is hearing your faces every night, singing in harmony, taking notes, and feeling your warmth. I’m okay, please know that I’ve worked hard to figure out who I am, what’s true, and what matters to me.
No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself, according to my therapist, and if you ever feel anything about it, you can look into what it means.
She concluded by saying, “I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary because I’m playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but…
“I get back up and play the game, and somehow I keep looking the other way and seeing a new level UNLOCKS,” I say.

David Beckham and The King teasing an upcoming project together after meeting for a surprise at the Chelsea Flower Show today.
At the conclusion of their annual visit to the show, Charles, who arrived with a traditional gardeners’ crook, and Queen Camilla were welcomed by the former United superstar and TV gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh.
The former England captain watched Charles and Queen Camilla from the Highgrove Shop stand, where all proceeds benefit The King’s Foundation, for which Mr. Beckham has spent a year serving as an ambassador.
Beckham and the Queen agreed that the bloom was “so beautiful” as they waited for the new pale pink rose to be sported in his buttonhole. The Queen gestured to Becks’ buttonhole and said, “It’s so beautiful, so beautiful, congratulations,” and appeared to get along incredibly well with him.
David Beckham and King Charles have met at today’s Chelsea Flower Show (PA).
Camilla inquired about Beckham’s recent 50th birthday celebrations, and Camilla asked about his fashion designer wife Victoria, who she met at a reception to honor the 15th anniversary of Women of the World (WOW), a movement that promotes gender equality around the world.
He stated, “She’s doing very well. This weekend was a lot of fun because I had a busy weekend. And he joked, “I know, finally,” while making reference to his 50th birthday.
According to legend, Charles reportedly asked Beckham, “You got it, didn’t you,” when the King and Queen sent him a birthday gift. Beckham responded, “Thank you, it was very kind,” and Beckham responded, “It was incredible.” Later, Camilla said, “I’m glad you got the roses, Camille!
This year, The King’s Foundation will celebrate its 35th anniversary, honoring its 35 years of efforts to sustainably transform communities and transform lives, particularly by maintaining green spaces and encouraging young people to learn in an environment that is inspired by nature. And they teased a project that aims to inspire young people to consider careers in horticulture at their next meeting.
The meeting took place just days after it became known that David’s oldest child, Brooklyn, and Prince Harry, the King’s separated son, were having a simmering argument between the Beckhams. Following Brooklyn’s father David’s 50th birthday celebrations amid a family row, Harry and wife Meghan allegedly hosted him and his wife Nicola at their Montecito mansion.
And with Harry apparently being able to offer his support to Brooklyn, who has since distanced himself from his parents, with his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, who is also at odds with him.

As the stand’s shopfront was ceremoniously opened with the opening of a pair of Sanderson-designed curtains in the style of a theatre, Charles and Camila sat with Beckham and Titchmarsh, both ambassadors for the King’s Foundation, to symbolize a collaboration between the interior design firm and the King’s Foundation.
The King and Queen spent a few minutes inside the store while Scott Simpson, the charity’s retail director, spent a few minutes with the charity’s retail director, spent some time admiring the floral displays created by Shane Connolly, the designer behind the flowers at the Coronation.
The King was drawn to a pair of exquisite china mugs with a retro “God Save the King” design, while Camilla was particularly drawn to a Burberry trench coat with fabric by Helen Bullock, a graduate of the Royal Drawing School.
Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, as well as Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, also attended the Chelsea Flower Show. The event, which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which the King patronizes, first took place in the grounds of London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea, which is known for its Chelsea Pensioners.

The names of Radio 2 presenters, RHS ambassadors, and Don’s beloved dog Ned are engraved on the brick paths, expressing the significance of dogs in people’s hearts and gardens.
Along with Camilla’s much-loved dog Beth, who passed away last year, will also be featured on the path along with her adopted Jack Russell Terrier mix Bluebell and her new puppy Moley. On the path is also Snuff, Charles’ dog, written.

The Queen is seen holding Moley in a new photo that was released by Buckingham Palace yesterday. Camilla is pictured smiling heartily as she cries the young dog, who was rehomed earlier this year through Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, in a garden next to a greenhouse.
The Queen supports the Battersea center as patron after the four-day show, which opens to the public on Tuesday. The King’s Trust is planting a seeding success in Chelsea this year, which Project Giving Back supports.
The trust has supported more than one million young people since it was founded almost 50 years ago with the aid of Joe Perkins as its architect.

Emma Raducanu produced an encouraging display to reach the second round in Strasbourg as she continued to build momentum before the French Open.
The British number two, who accepted a late wildcard for the tournament, was in fine form in a 6-1 6-3 win over world number 17 Daria Kasatkina.
World number 43 Raducanu had not won a set in three previous meetings with Kasatkina but the inconsistent Australian failed to win a single service game.
Raducanu will face American Danielle Collins in the last 16 as she continues her preparations for the French Open, which begins on Sunday.
“I’m really proud of my performance – I was very aggressive and I maintained my focus in the second set when it was getting close,” Raducanu, 22, said afterwards.
“I think I’ve been building towards this. It’s a great feeling.
After reaching the Miami Open quarter-finals in March and moving back inside the world’s top 50, Raducanu chose to take a “physical and mental” break from competitive action.
That meant she did not begin her clay court swing until a month later in Madrid.
A second-round exit in the Spanish capital was followed by last week’s run to the Italian Open fourth round, where she managed to win three clay-court matches in a row for the first time in her career.
Victory over Kasatkina was another indication the Briton is hitting her stride at the ideal time before her second French Open campaign begins.
The players exchanged breaks of serve in a scrappy start to the match but, after being gifted a second game by Kasatkina, Raducanu took charge.
A hold of serve without reply allowed her to grow in confidence and she was soon dictating play with punishing, powerful groundstrokes.
Taking full advantage of her opponent’s continued struggles on serve, Raducanu reeled off five consecutive games to win her first set in four meetings with Kasatkina.
The second set was not straightforward. Raducanu’s opening hold of serve proved invaluable as it was followed by a run of seven consecutive breaks, with former world number eight Kasatkina digging in.
Raducanu could not hide her delight after unleashing a superb backhand down the line to close in on victory, eventually ending Kasatkina’s resistance with her fourth match point.
Raducanu reached the second round in her only previous Roland Garros appearance in 2022.
The 2021 US Open champion is currently working with Mark Petchey – a former coach of Andy Murray – on an informal basis, having been without a full-time coach since January.
Elsewhere on Monday, fellow Briton Harriet Dart was knocked out in the first round of French Open qualifying, losing 6-1 6-2 to Ukrainian 21-year-old Anastasiya Soboleva.
Tola Odeyemi, the postmaster general and CEO, claims that the Nigerian Postal Service (NPOSTS) has over $ 10 billion in revenue, exceeding its projected potential, and indicating a significant shift in its national relevance.
Odeyemi, who spoke on The Beam with Soonest Nathaniel, revealed that the organization’s last year exceeded the $10 billion annual benchmark, a significant achievement for a company that is frequently regarded as a legacy relic.
As the discussion centered on “Beyond Stamps: The Reinvention of Nigeria’s Postal Power,” she stated, “We actually surpassed ten billion last year, and that was just by digitizing some of our processes and plugin leakages.”
She argued that 10 billion naira is a scratch for the Nigerian Postal Service, not to mention how much money can be made from the major services of NIPOST given the organization’s recent improvements to ensure efficient service delivery and increased revenue.

Odeyemi outlined several transformation plans, including leveraging the National Addressing System to improve financial security and inclusion, as well as enhancing digital services like PostMoni.
Notably, she noted that the Nigerian Police could combat crimes and improve emergency responses if they adopted NIPOST’s addressing framework.
She argued that “policing is easier, crime prevention is easier, planning is easier, and even things like the census are easier” if we can say that this person, or this entity, is connected to a specific location.
Odeyemi did point out that the addressing system supports things like drone deliveries and even the delivery of other government services right to people’s doorsteps in addition to reducing crime.
The Postmaster General stated that NIPOST is actively positioning itself to become fully self-sufficient in five years thanks to new revenue sources and improved service reliability.
Odeyemi addressed service concerns by addressing past issues involving lost or mishandled packages while reassured the public that more advanced logistics systems and stricter security procedures are in place.
When questioned about restoring public trust, she emphasized the significance of rebranding NIPOST as a civic institution of the 21st century that has a significant impact on the nation’s digital economy.
“In five to ten years, I would like to see NIPOST become a national pride institution because we can count on it, because it’s reliable, and because we need it,” she said. adding, “a NIPOST that is completely digital but still accessible to underserved areas, rural areas, and urban areas.”
The Postmaster General’s wish for NIPOST to become a reliable and efficient national institution that promotes inclusive economic prosperity.
