In Port Harcourt, the capital of the Rivers State, a gas explosion resulted in 18 people receiving various injuries.
Some of the nearby buildings were harmed by the incident that happened on Sunday evening at a gas refill station in the capital city’s Oroazi community.
The Rivers State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident on Monday by stating that a welder’s equipment exploded and malfunctioned while repairing a refrigerator.

The technician attempted to refill the refrigerator while using a gas cylinder to weld, which caused the explosion. No fewer than 18 persons, including the technician, sustained injuries, but fortunately, no lives were lost”, she said.
The victims, who had burn injuries at various degrees, are currently receiving treatment at the state university teaching hospital, according to her further.
