Abati ‘offers to refund N5 million to EFCC’

 

A former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that he only has N5 million to reimburse the government.

Mr. Abati was detained when he reported at the EFCC headquarters a week ago.

During the interrogation, he reportedly admitted receiving N50 million from a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

The government said the money was part of $2.1 billion earmarked for the purchase of arms for the fight against Boko Haram.

Mr. Dasuki is standing trial for allegedly misappropriating the money.

At the largest annual gathering of African entrepreneurs, held in Lagos, Nigeria, from October 28-29, 2016, the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) hosted almost 1,000 women and men from 54 African countries, for the 2nd TEF Entrepreneurship Forum.

The Forum celebrates the 2016 cohort of Elumelu Entrepreneurs, selected from over 45,000 applicants. It is the annual highlight of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme and saw the presence of leading policy makers and business leaders from across Africa, giving their support to the Foundation and its promise to identify, train, mentor and seed 1,000 entrepreneurs in a decade-long $100 million commitment. Following the Forum, each entrepreneur is eligible to receive up to $10,000 to implement their business plan.

Saraki loses bid to stop trial, Judge’s disqualification

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has failed to persuade the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja to suspend further hearing on the 16-count charge the Federal Government preferred against him.

Saraki equally lost his bid to disqualify Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, from further presiding over the case.

In a ruling on Wednesday, the two-man panel tribunal dismissed the fresh application Saraki filed through his team of lawyers led by a former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, as an abuse of judicial process.

 The partnership will provide a framework for bringing creative industry stakeholders together with investors, financiers and business leaders to transform the creativity of industry entrepreneurs into a profitable sector capable of attracting international collaboration and contributing consistently to the national economy.

Nigerians warned: 99 per cent smuggled rice not fit for consumption

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, says 99 per cent of rice smuggled through the land borders is not fit for human consumption.

Mr. Ali, a retired Colonel, said this at a joint news conference on illegal rice importation to Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said samples of some of the rice seizures made over a period were referred to NAFDAC to ascertain their condition.

He said the test reports certified that smuggled rice through the borders was unfit for human consumption.

Ex-Appropriation Chair, Jibrin, undergoes dope test at National Hospital

Suspended House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jubrin, on Tuesday reported at the National Hospital, Abuja to undergo test for substance abuse.

He said the move was to disprove a claim that he is a regular drug abuser and had been acting under the influence of drugs.

Mr. Jibrin arrived the private wing of the hospital at about 12 noon and was received by the hospital’s deputy Director, Clinical Services.
